09. Our story
Non l'ho costruita per il mercato.
L'ho costruita perché doveva esistere.
I did not build it for the market.
I built it because it had to exist.
Non ho cominciato da un'analisi dei competitor, da una presentazione ben fatta o da un business plan.
Non per inseguire una moda, occupare una nicchia o vestirmi da startup.
Ho cominciato da un'idea che è rimasta viva per anni e non si è lasciata spegnere.
I did not start from a competitor analysis, a well-made presentation, or a business plan.
Not to chase a trend, fill a niche, or dress myself up as a startup.
I started from an idea that stayed alive for years and refused to be extinguished.
Forse comincia ancora prima di avere le parole giuste per dirlo.
In una foto ho cinque anni, sono in sella a un go-kart, e sul muso c'è già uno stemma con un cavallino nero su sfondo giallo Modena.
Perhaps it begins before I even have the right words for it.
In a photograph I am five years old, sitting on a go-kart, and on the nose there is already a badge with a black horse on Modena yellow.
Non è nostalgia.
È il segno che certe immagini entrano presto e non ti mollano più.
It is not nostalgia.
It is the sign that certain images get in early and never let go.
Da anni vivo all'estero e lavoro in un mondo fatto di schermi, numeri, procedure e astrazione.
Un mondo ordinato, efficiente, levigato.
For years I have lived abroad and worked in a world of screens, numbers, procedures, and abstraction.
An ordered, efficient, frictionless world.
Ma quello che continuava a chiamarmi era altro: il metallo lavorato, la precisione, la combustione, la presenza fisica di un oggetto costruito con serietà.
But what kept calling me was something else: worked metal, precision, combustion, the physical presence of an object built with seriousness.
Questa idea resta viva per quattordici anni.
Non come un capriccio, ma come una direzione precisa.
This idea stayed alive for fourteen years.
Not as a whim, but as a precise direction.
Un piccolo motore artigianale, vero, capace di tenere insieme cultura meccanica, bellezza materiale e rigore costruttivo.
Non un gadget.
Non un giocattolo.
Un motore.
A small artisan engine, real, capable of holding together mechanical culture, material beauty, and constructive rigour.
Not a gadget.
Not a toy.
An engine.
Poi scrivo a Franco.
Then I wrote to Franco.
Ed è lì che l'idea smette di essere solo un'immagine nella testa.
And that is where the idea stops being just an image in the mind.
Franco non porta entusiasmo generico.
Porta mestiere.
Franco does not bring generic enthusiasm.
He brings craft.
Porta anni passati davanti alle macchine, ai materiali, alle tolleranze, ai problemi concreti che non si risolvono con una frase bella o con una slide.
Porta la capacità di guardare un disegno e capire cosa può diventare metallo, cosa va ripensato, cosa regge e cosa no.
He brings years spent in front of machines, materials, tolerances, concrete problems that cannot be solved with a good phrase or a slide.
He brings the ability to look at a drawing and understand what can become metal, what needs rethinking, what holds and what does not.
Officina 9 nasce lì: non da una teoria, ma dall'incontro tra un'immagine rimasta accesa per anni e una competenza capace di trasformarla in un oggetto reale.
Officina 9 is born there: not from a theory, but from the meeting between an image that stayed lit for years and an expertise capable of turning it into a real object.
Senza investitori.
Senza teatro.
Solo con la convinzione che certe cose
meritino di essere fatte come si deve.
No investors.
No theatre.
Just the conviction that certain things
deserve to be done properly.
In un tempo che spinge tutto verso il digitale, il veloce e il replicabile, abbiamo scelto la direzione opposta.
In an age that pushes everything toward the digital, the fast, and the replicable, we chose the opposite direction.
La materia.
La meccanica.
Il tempo necessario.
La serietà di un oggetto che non deve spiegarsi troppo quando lo hai davanti.
Matter.
Mechanics.
The necessary time.
The seriousness of an object that does not need to explain itself when you have it in front of you.
Innesco nasce così.

Da una visione rimasta viva abbastanza a lungo da trovare le mani giuste.
E da un'officina capace di darle forma.
From a vision that stayed alive long enough to find the right hands.

Non lo abbiamo costruito per piacere a tutti.
Lo abbiamo costruito per chi capisce.
We did not build it to please everyone.
We built it for those who understand.
