Monocilindrico, 9cc, ricavato dal pieno: acciaio C40, acciaio 18NiCrMo5, alluminio, ottone, ghisa sferoidale. Ogni componente esiste perché deve esistere. Ogni forma segue una funzione. Ogni componente di Officina 9 nasce da blocco pieno: alluminio fresato CNC fino alla forma definitiva, acciaio rettificato al centesimo di millimetro, ottone rifinito a mano pezzo per pezzo. Every component of Officina 9 starts as solid stock: aluminium CNC milled to its final form, steel ground to hundredths of a millimetre, brass finished by hand piece by piece. Precision is the only way we know how to work. And when the engine is finished, you can see it. You can see it without opening a thing.

Ci sono oggetti che hanno bisogno di muoversi per giustificare la loro esistenza. Officina 9 no. Mettilo su una scrivania. Torna a guardarlo dopo una settimana. È ancora lì, con la stessa qualità del primo giorno. Some objects need to move to justify their existence. Officina 9 does not. Put it on a desk. Come back after a week. It is still there, with the same quality as the first day.

L'alluminio invecchia bene. L'ottone prende patina col tempo: diventa più bello, non meno. L'acciaio non si scalfisce. Officina 9 nasce da un'idea rimasta viva per anni. Officina 9 began as an idea that stayed alive for years.

Per molto tempo ho vissuto all'estero e ho lavorato in banca. Un mondo fatto di schermi, numeri, procedure, astrazione. For a long time I lived abroad and worked in banking. A world built on screens, numbers, procedures, abstraction.

Ma quello che continuava a chiamarmi davvero era altro: il metallo lavorato, la precisione, la combustione, la presenza fisica di un oggetto costruito con serietà. But what kept calling me was something else: worked metal, precision, combustion, the physical presence of an object built with seriousness.

Questa idea è rimasta con me per quattordici anni, da quando Franco scrisse il suo libro. Quattordici anni con un pensiero preciso: dare forma a un piccolo motore artigianale capace di unire cultura meccanica, bellezza materiale e rigore costruttivo. This idea stayed with me for fourteen years, since Franco wrote his book. Fourteen years with one clear thought: to give form to a small artisan engine capable of uniting mechanical culture, material beauty, and constructive rigour.

Poi ho scritto a Franco. Io portavo la visione. Lui la competenza tecnica e la capacità concreta di costruirla. Then I wrote to Franco. I brought the vision. He brought the technical expertise and the concrete ability to build it.

Quando diciamo pienamente funzionante, intendiamo che opera secondo gli stessi principi termodinamici di un motore a grandezza naturale. Aspira una vera miscela aria/carburante, la comprime e la accende tramite il calore della candela glow incandescente, sfruttando l'espansione risultante per azionare un pistone e un albero motore. È un vero motore a combustione interna, semplicemente eseguito su scala micro.
Officina 9 è un pezzo di arte meccanica stazionaria, concepito per vivere sulla vostra scrivania come oggetto di contemplazione. Produce coppia e RPM reali, ma la sua destinazione è un'altra: essere osservato, ascoltato, apprezzato: un monumento tangibile alla bellezza della combustione meccanica.

When we say fully functional, we mean it operates according to the same thermodynamic principles as a full size engine. It draws in a real air/fuel mixture, compresses and ignites it via the heat of a glowing glow plug, and uses the resulting expansion to drive a piston and crankshaft. It is a true internal combustion engine, simply executed at micro scale.
Officina 9 is a stationary piece of mechanical art, conceived to live on your desk as an object of contemplation. It produces real torque and RPM, but its destination is different: to be observed, listened to, appreciated: a tangible monument to the beauty of mechanical combustion.
Operating this engine demands the same respect as any combustion device. It uses highly flammable liquid fuel, generates significant heat, especially around the exhaust and cylinder head, and produces exhaust gases including carbon monoxide. It must be operated only in well-ventilated areas by responsible adults, strictly following the operational guidelines provided. It is absolutely not a toy.
We reject mass production in favour of meticulous craftsmanship. Structural components such as the crankcase are precision machined from solid aluminium billet. Critical wear components, including the ductile iron cylinder liner and high-grade steel piston, are precision-turned to ensure proper compression and longevity. Every single engine is hand assembled, timed, and tested by a single technician before leaving our workshop.
True mechanical precision cannot be rushed. By limiting production to small, controlled batches, we maintain absolute quality control. This approach allows us to inspect every tolerance, test every mechanical fit, and ensure each engine meets our exacting standards.
